Master of Arts
The duration of the course of instruction for the Master of Arts examination shall be two years and the examination shall be held in two parts, viz. Part I at the end of the course of first year and Part II at the end of the courses of second year.
The examination in Parts I and II shall ordinarily be held annually in the month of April.
Admission to M.A. Part I
The college offers M.A. in the following subjects. A candidate shall offer any one of them.
1) English
2) Psychology
3) Public Administration
4) Sociology
Eligibility
A person who has passed one of the following examinations from the Panjab University or from any other University whose examination has been recognised as equivalent to the corresponding examination of this University (under 10+2+3 system of education) shall be eligible to join the first year (Part-I) class of the M.A. Course:
1) B.A. with Honours in the subject of the Postgraduate Course.
2) a) A Bachelor's Degree in any Faculty with at least 50 percent marks in the aggregate OR
b) Diploma in Physical Education or Postgraduate Diploma in Library Science after having passed B.A. or B.Sc.
3) The B.A. (Pass) B.Sc. (Pass) Examination in full subjects; or obtained B.A. degree through English only regulations obtaining at least 45 per cent marks in the subject of the Postgraduate course.
4) Obtained B.A. degree, after passing the examination in an Oriental Classical Language or a Modern Indian language with at least 45 per cent marks (out of the aggregate excluding the additional paper) at the Honours in Oriental Titles or Modern Indian Languages examination in the subject of Postgraduate Course.
5) Master's degree examination in another subject or another faculty.
6) The B.A. examination under Social Service Regulations or under War Regulations and subsequently passed in the subject concerned at the B.A. examination in the subject of Postgraduate Course obtaining at least 45 percent marks.
7) B.Sc. Honours School.
Provided that
1) A candidate shall offer Psychology only if he / she passed in that subject in BA/ BSc exam.
2) For the Public Administration course, a person who has passed one of the following examinations shall also be eligible:
i) B.A. (Pass) with 45% marks in Public Administration or History or Political Science or Economics or Sociology or Psychology
ii) Has passed with at least 50% marks in the aggregate:-
a) LLB or b) B.Com
Compartment Candidates:
A candidate who is placed under compartment in one subject in B.A./ B.Sc. third Year examination of Panjab University shall be allowed to join M.A. Part I class provisionally if he fulfils other requirements and provided
1) The subject in which he has to re-appear is not offered for the M.A. Part I examination.
2) If he fails to clear the compartment subject of the B.A./B.Sc. Third Year examination in the next two consecutive chances immediately following compartment, his provisional admission to M.A. Part I examination shall be cancelled.
Note: Compartment candidates may be considered for admission to M.A. Part-I where seats are available after exhausting all the pass candidates.
